Meet the Craig A Murray Dog Training Team!

This is a family business that has been established for over 20 years. We started out with a deep love and devotion to dogs and our passion and hobby quickly became a career. Wanting to provide the best possible knowledge and education to pass on to our clients, Craig gained education from the USA in Professional Dog Training, Police and Narcotic Dog training, Man Trailing Bloodhounds, Search and Rescue and Cadaver Recovery dogs and Assistance and Therapy Dogs and training. Due to our commitment and professionalism, we have been utilized as permanent part time lecturers at the Queensland University Veterinary Science School for over 13 years.  We are still currently lecturing for the Animal Ethology Course at the University of Queensland Gatton Campus.  We have been retained by one of the largest Asian College Groups as special educators under contract to assist in the training of Japanese dog training, grooming, welfare & veterinary students. Tracey has spent 5 weeks doing a live-in practicum at a Wolf Research Facility in the United States of America to research the similarities and differences between the wolf and the domestic dog.  She has also completed a Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services.

We have been contracted by Governments and large corporations to develop world first technology for sniffer dogs and have worked as specialist search dog handlers for five states police services. We have trained police officers and dogs overseas and have won an International Award for Dog Training Excellence in Law Enforcement. We were awarded volunteer of the year award for our services to the Queensland Ambulance Disaster Dog Team development. We are often called upon to train local government officers and to appear as expert witness in many court cases.  We have also trained the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries Red Imported Fire Ant Detection Dog Team and Electric Ant Detection Dog Team. We are also one of the few trainers that have already gained Certification from the Queensland Government to train Assistance Dogs under the new Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dog Act of 2009.  We also have the experience of passing many dogs through Animal Ethics accreditation.   With every client we service, they benefit from our vast experience and professionalism regardless of whether it is family pet training or developing new technology and education opportunities.

Craig and Tracey have a team of hand-picked, high callabre, ethically minded staff that were chosen for their ability to provide quality, reliable canine correct information and training methodology that has been the hallmark of our business and services for over 20 years.  Staff do not get to "buy into" our business as we do not offer the sale of parts of our business as franchises as we believe that ensures us to be in control of the quality of information, services and the staff supplying the required services to our valued clientele.  We are constantly upgrading and developing both our skills and those of our team members and this includes a pathway for them to achieve their dream training objectives.  The better we make our team members, the better we are as a business and this only ensures that our clients get the best up to date skills and techniques.

I first met Craig and Tracey after enrolling our new pup Tetley into one of their obedience classes down at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast. I came from a training background myself and was impressed with the techniques they used and with the results we got with Tetley in just 5 weeks. My husband and I soon became regulars and close friends to this "extraordinarily talented couple". Looking to expand classes to other areas on the Gold Coast, I persuaded Craig to take me on as an Instructor and was soon running "Craig A. Murray" dog obedience classes in Helensvale and Miami. Now i have moved back to the United Kingdom and running Craig A. Murray UK.

With Craig developing my skills further I ventured into the world of odour detection dogs. After securing a Dog handler position with Queensland Biosecurity I successfully deployed and maintained two Red Imported Fire Ant Detection Dogs as part of the Queensland Biosecurity's RIFA eradication program.

Since my return to England in 2009, I have launched the "Craig A Murray UK" division of the business. Thanks to technology I am still able to work closely with Craig and Tracey via the internet and Skype!.  Building collaborations with other pet industry professionals Tracey and I were recently invited to speak at "The Pooch Mobile" annual conference in Gloucester.

It's been thirty years since I did my first obedience class and I've been hooked ever since. Having always had a multi-dog household, incorporating a range of breeds from Silkies to Great Danes, I quickly learned the importance of obedience. The last fourteen years I have also been heavily involved with the retraining of racehorses, obtaining them from the racetrack once they were finished with and schooling them for a new life. Having admired Craig's ability with dogs for many years, it was a great privilege to be trained by Craig to be part of the team as an Obedience Instructor.

Graham                Graham with Freckle and Tia   Working Patrol Dogs with Craig

Craig and I have been friends and training dogs together since 1986. I have been lucky enough to have been involved in many aspects of dog training since knowing Craig - everything from puppies, all levels of obedience, patrol dogs, some specialist dogs and dog behaviour. I have helped Craig out with many lectures by assisting with demonstrations over the years. I currently work in the Vet Wholesale business which has allowed me to learn alot about the general health side of a dog but it takes up most of my time not allowing me to train as much as I would like to. I really enjoy helping other trainers to improve their skills.

I currently instruct at the Hope Island Veterinary Surgery Puppy Kindergarten class on a Tuesday night for puppies from 8 to 16 weeks of age.  If you wish to book in for this class, call the staff at Hope Island Vet to book in on 5530 1105 - they will be only too happy to assist you.  I also run the Dress A Dog Puppy and Juvenile Puppy School at Upper Coomera on Saturdays.  You can call either myself or Dress A Dog for more information on these classes.  The number for Dress A Dog is 5665 8055.  I'll also meet you at the Helensvale Dog Obedience Classes where I also Instruct obedience classes on a Sunday.  I look forward to helping you gain a better relationship with your canine companion!

I have always loved animals of all different kinds since I can remember. I started working as a Vet Nurse in 2001 and enjoyed every moment, and I starting training dogs in 2003. Through working at the Vet I had heard many great things about Craig and Tracey Murray. Then I found a workshop that would give me the chance to actually learn under Craig and Tracey and realised the endless wealth of knowledge that these two had. Their methods and techniques are so straight forward with no excuses just results. I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful and talented team of dog trainers. I live my life so that I always enjoy what I do and I love working with the Craig Murray Team. I look forward to my future in dog training and helping people and their dogs.

Working with Digger                      Katrina and Digger                                Digger

I have been involved with Training or Coaching and Development for over 15 years now. I have worked in the banking industry in a Training and Development role, sports coaching and development for people with Intellectual Disabilities and in the Rugby League sector.  Growing up in the regional and country areas of Queensland, we were always surrounded by animals, whether it were cattle, horses or dogs they played an important part in our lives.  So when it came to deciding on a new career path and a new challenge I decided to put both the training and development skills together with animals.  I'm now also learning to do herding with my dogs in my spare time.  As you can see, dogs are a large part of my life.

If you have any inclination to want to train or improve your dog I highly recommend contacting one of the instructors in your area, you will be surprised at the long term results you, your dog and the rest of your family achieve.  I look forward to seeing you at one of our classes.  Please feel free to give me a call, and talk about your training needs for your dog.

Having always had a deep passion for working with animals and helping people, I volunteered for several years with the Riding for Disabled, which brought me enormous satisfaction in seeing the joy this brought to the rider and also realizing how much animals play an important part in our lives.

I acquired a position at an Animal Boarding Kennel, looking after a variety of animals - cats, guinea pigs, birds, rats, snakes but mainly dogs.  This experience confirmed my passion and also got me interested in wanting to obtain knowledge about the variety of behaviours dogs exhibit, which led me to Craig and Tracey.

The amount of knowledge Craig and Tracey have is immeasurable and their devotion and professionalism is outstanding. I feel privileged to be part of the team and part of the process in making a difference.

Our Canine Companions have had thousands of years to perfect the art of cohabitation with humans and in some cases manipulation of situations to their advantage. To me the most refreshing aspect of Craig A Murray Dog Training is the passion every team member possesses in teaching pet owners to appreciate and respect the natural abilities of their dog.

One of humans less desirable traits would have to be “What we don’t understand we fear and what we fear we destroy”. My entire working career has revolved around educating the public to better understand both native and domestic animals from a logical point of view.

I was a Wildlife Officer for 10 years working in the Zoo Industry with birds, mammals and reptiles. The rewards of such work came with, endless learning, education of the public and the special moments I was privileged to witness or participate in with the animals.

More recently I moved into the Pet Industry. Over the past few years I have been involved in Domestic Animal Management, husbandry, public education, Canine Myofunctional Therapy and Dog Obedience with Craig A Murray Dog Training. I continue to be amazed by the experience Craig and Tracey share with us (their team) and with the pet owner who is seeking to improve the relationship with their dog.

The ultimate goal being to create a mutual respect between Man and Dog. - Lara Bullen

My goal is to teach you things you didn't know about your dog, ways to get the most out of your dog and live happy and harmoniously together.

For me, there's no greater pleasure than problem solving.  Nothing makes me happier than when a client is overjoyed with the progress they've made together with their pup simply by implementing slight change.  I feel privileged to be able to help people have the best possible life with their dog.

I have been around dogs all my life, and have owned a number different breeds including Boxers, Dobermans, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, a Mastiff, a Cattle dog, and a number of pet Greyhounds.  Over the past 10 years in particular I have expanded my knowledge of dog behaviour and dog training. The more I learn, the more I realise I need to learn, which is great!

For the past 5 years my dogs have been accredited as pets as therapy dogs and we have visited a local hospital as well as local nursing homes.  The dogs also assist local primary school children who need to improve their reading.

I became interested in Canine Myofunctional Therapy through my involvement with Greyhound rescue.  As an advocate of alternative therapies for both humans and their four-legged friends, I feel massage is a wonderful way to assist the healing process.  Massage can make a huge difference to: elderly dogs with arthritis and muscle wastage, dogs with injuries or have had an operation, dogs with poor conformation, performance and sporting dogs, anxious dogs, dogs with muscle damage due to behavioural issues such as pulling on the lead…you name it.  And like humans, dogs love to be massaged! For more information on the benefits of massage, visit the canine myofunctional therapy page on this website (listed under 'Pet Services').

When not working with dogs, I currently work for the NSW State Government in a restorative justice program.  Previously, I worked mainly in the financial services sector in marketing and public relations.
